The CU-Bloomsburg Community Government Association (CGA) has renewed its commitment to supporting fellow students by pledging $500,000 over five years to provide emergency scholarships to Bloomsburg students facing unexpected financial hardships.

The pledge鈥攁llocated between annual support and a growing endowment fund鈥攗nderscores CGA鈥檚 belief in student success and the importance of ensuring that no student has to pause or abandon their education due to financial constraints.

鈥淪tudent success is at the heart of our mission,鈥 said CU President Bashar W. Hanna. 鈥淭his extraordinary commitment from CGA is a powerful example of how our students continue to show us what鈥檚 possible when they lead with empathy and action.鈥

The renewed gift comes at a time when student need is high, and many members of CGA say they鈥檝e seen firsthand how critical emergency scholarship funding can be.

鈥淲e鈥檝e all known someone who鈥檚 struggled to stay enrolled because of an unexpected expense or financial setback,鈥 said CGA Comptroller Neil D鈥橝mato. 鈥淭his gift is about making sure our students have the support they need to stay on track and earn their degrees.鈥

Outgoing CGA President Matthew Yurkunas, who will graduate in May, reflected on the legacy this commitment leaves behind. 鈥淭his pledge represents who we are as a student body鈥攃ompassionate, driven, and invested in one another鈥檚 future. I鈥檓 proud to have played a part in continuing a tradition that has such a meaningful impact.鈥

Incoming CGA President Chaz Kaszuba echoed that sentiment and emphasized the continuity of support. 鈥淲e鈥檙e not just investing in scholarships鈥攚e鈥檙e investing in the lives, dreams, and resilience of our classmates. I鈥檓 excited to carry this responsibility forward with the new CGA leadership team.鈥

Each year, CGA鈥檚 executive board reviews an impact report prepared by the Bloomsburg University Foundation that outlines how the emergency funds were used, how many students benefited, and what needs remain. The board then votes to release the annual funding allotment, ensuring transparency and alignment with student priorities.

The Bloomsburg University Foundation will manage the gift and distribute funds to students in need, with a portion of the pledge dedicated to growing an endowment that will provide lasting support for future generations of Bloomsburg students.

鈥淭his is the very essence of what it means to be part of the Bloomsburg community鈥攕tudents helping students succeed,鈥 said BU Foundation Executive Director Jerome Dvorak. 鈥淲e are deeply grateful for CGA鈥檚 continued leadership and investment in our students鈥 futures.鈥
