Sheira Sosa is a graduating sociology major with a criminal justice minor from Allentown.
She stayed involved at Bloomsburg University in a variety of ways; being a member of the Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc., Student Organization of Latinos, Black Culture Society, as well as a member of the Criminal Justice Society.
鈥淚 will miss Bloomsburg with all my heart,鈥 Sosa says. 鈥淚鈥檒l mostly miss the people I have been blessed to meet in my four years here. From my friends who live far away to the professors and faculty. Each one of them has made my time here memorable and enjoyable. Whether it鈥檚 hanging out during their office hours or going out to eat to staying up until 3 a.m. watching movies and talking.鈥
She also added, 鈥淭he biggest impression Bloomsburg has left on me is that we are our own worst enemies. We tend to stop our own growth. We can blame anything and everything when something doesn鈥檛 work out or we can find ways to improve and keep it pushing. The world doesn鈥檛 stop and neither should we. If we did something wrong, we need to learn to accept it and learn from it.鈥
Sosa feels her time at BU has prepared her for the future.
鈥淪ome of my friends who have graduated from other schools weren鈥檛 able to use their major hands-on while in school that when they graduated they were shocked,鈥 Sosa says. 鈥淚 was able to go to Boston and present my own research, I have been able to write many articles on topics that interest me and I have been able to take courses that have a hands-on and interactive curriculum so when I finish here I know what my degree entails.鈥
She is currently planning her next step in life after graduation.
鈥淎s for my next step, I will be moving back to Allentown,鈥 Sosa says. 鈥淚鈥檓 currently job hunting and want to work in research or community development. I will be going abroad to Thailand this summer and submerging myself in a new culture to see things from a different perspective for a bit.鈥
