Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf personally recognized Bloomsburg University’s Future Business Leaders of America- Phi Beta Lambda and their president, senior Matthew Wolgemuth for their success at the Phi Beta Lambda National Leadership Conference this summer.

Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda is the largest career student business organization in the world and it offers state and national level conferences. These conferences take place over the course of three days and offer different professional workshops, networking events, guest speakers, and business competitions.

Wolgemuth finished second place in the category of Business Decision Making at the conference beating universities such as Pennsylvania State University, University of Pittsburgh, Temple University, and Duquesne University.

“These competitions test a student’s knowledge and presentation skills in topics such as accounting, management, marketing,” Wolgemuth said. “This is where Bloomsburg University’s Phi Beta Lambda really shines.”

At the state conference level, 24 BU students competed and 15 of those students placed top two in their respected events. From there, Bloomsburg University’s success didn’t stop. Of those 15 students who qualified at the state level, ten students placed in the top ten of the nation in their events.

“These conference’s are something that I look forward to every single year,” Wolgemuth said. “I have the opportunity to travel to places I’ve never been to before with my best friends and have the time of my life.”

Not only has Wolgemuth experienced a great time with his friends, but he has also set his future up for success.

“There is no doubt in my mind that through all of the professional workshops, community service opportunities, and social events, that Phi Beta Lambda has made me a better student, business professional, and all around a better person,” Wolgemuth said.
